Bursary Criteria

To qualify you must be aged 16 or over and under 19 on 31 August 2023 and meet the ESFA’s residency criteria. The bursary is paid to enable you to attend Education with us and will only be paid if your attendance and behaviour meet the required standards. Evidence of attendance must also be completed to enable you to receive bursary payments.

Vulnerable Bursary Criteria

To qualify you must answer Yes to at least one of the three questions below and produce the required evidence as stated.

Although the above are the defined criteria that a student must meet in order to be eligible to claim Vulnerable Bursary, there is no guarantee that a student meeting them will receive funding. Each application is subject to a financial assessment and awards are determined on a case-by-case basis, meaning some students may receive a limited award or in some cases no award at all.

Free Meals Criteria

Free meals are targeted at disadvantaged students. For the purposes of eligibility for free meals, ‘disadvantage’ is defined by the student being in receipt of, or having parents who are in receipt of, one or more of the following benefits?

Income support
Income based Jobseekers Allowance
Income related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
Support under part V1 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
The guarantee element of State Pension Credit
Child Tax Credit (provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit) and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190, as assessed by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.
Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit.
Universal Credit with net earnings not exceeding the equivalent of £7,400 p.a
